Hing Ket Seafood Grill

Overview:
Residing in the heart of Kampung Jawa in Klang (for those of you not familiar with this area, or Klang in general, there's a map at the bottom of the post), Hing Ket Grill House is a house turned restaurant specializing in seafood and grilled food (well, duh). Although located along a busy and dusty main road, many restaurant patrons flock to this restaurant all the way from KL and Damansara just to have a taste of reasonably priced seafood and grilled lamb offered by Hing Ket.

Front view of the restaurant from the front parking lot.
As a Klangnite, I'm ashamed to have only found out of this place recently. Thanks to my mom and dad, both     who have grown up and lived in Klang their whole life, we celebrated my sister's 20th birthday at Hing Ket Grill House. The restaurant is quite spacious and there's even an air-conditioned room enough to sit 2 tables of 10-12 people. Although there's limited parking space in front of the restaurant, restaurant patrons can opt to park at the neighboring restaurant (also a seafood restaurant, but not packed most of the time) for a fee of RM2.

Fried lala meehoon (Vermicelli with clams)

The fried lala meehoon was delicious. There were ample clams and they were not stingy with the ingredients.

Umbra juice
As we sat at the non-air conditioned area indoors, it was a little bit stuffy and to quench our thirst, we ordered umbra juice with sour plum, also known as "ampala semboi'. This drink has a sour punch and did the job for the thirst part. For those not familiar with this drink, it is from the "kedondong" fruit and is a fairly popular drink in Penang.

Grilled lamb
Lamb lovers gonna love. The grilled lamb is a must try and was highly recommended by my aunt, who frequents this restaurant. No doubt, the grilled lamb was sweet and not too tough to eat.

Grilled giant prawns
Another must-try of this restaurant is the grilled prawns. The prawns were fresh and has been de-veined which was a plus point. Nevertheless, the price of these babies might be a little bit on the steeper end for those expecting cheap Klang seafood.

Grilled curry stingray
This was one of my favorites at this place. The grilled stingray fish is marinated with curry powder and served on banana leaf. This fish exudes a strong curry taste and is on the spicy side. Squeeze some lime over the dish and you'll be licking the plate in no time.

Grilled super crabs

Sweet and juice piece of crab meat
My favorite dish at this restaurant is the grilled crabs. My dad frequents this restaurant quite a lot and Hing Ket is one of his favorite place to bring his clients. With his extensive experience eating here, he recommended us to order the "super" crabs whereby the crabs are much bigger in size and juicier compared to the normal crabs. So super crabs we did order, and it got us hammering away and we spared no meat!
Well of course on the flip side, the crabs were pricier than the normal crabs and cost just approximately RM50 per crab.

Or Chien (Omelette with oyster)
The or chien was surprisingly good and was not too starchy. I've tasted starchy or chiens too many times. Could've used more oysters though.

Mixed fruit platter

As we chose Hing Ket to celebrate my sister's birthday and the familiarity of my dad with the owner, we were lucky enough to receive a complimentary fruit platter from the restaurant owner. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who's up for some reasonably priced seafood, grilled lambs and a taste of Klang. More posts on Klang food to come!

  2. If you are coming from the Kesas Highway, turning right to the Jalan Kebun. Go straight after the roundabout. You will pass by the Shell and the BP Kiosk on your left. Pass KFC. Pass traffic lights. Another 2-3 km pass a small mosque and a bike shop on the right.

Just a short distance, almost at the steep curve, slow down. See a big mosque on your right side. Hing Ket Grill House is just before the big mosque.
